Recipe for Cherry Cake

Easy and delicious cherry cake.

Cherry Cake is an easy “from scratch” recipe that serves 12 – 16 people.    There are enough servings to share with a friend and save for your family as well.  I wish you could taste the rich, buttery flavor, enhanced by the almond extract.  


  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • whipped cream or powdered sugar (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together.
  3. Add in the eggs, one at a time as well as the almond extract.
  4. Beat until fluffy.
  5. Add the flour and baking powder a little at time until it is all incorporated. Batter will be thick.
  6. Pour into a greased 13 x 9 inch pan.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the cherry pie filling into the batter in a pattern of lines. (see first photo above)
  8. Bake 45-50 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center is clean.
  9. Cool completely.
  10. Cut into squares, invert on plate and top with powdered sugar or whipped cream.

When my daughter was little, she was surprised to find that you can make a cake without a package of  cake mix.
